Beginner’s Basic Familiarization Safety Course
This one-day (4.5 hours), Static Shooting course is designed to engage participants in proper gun safety, skills, and marksmanship.
In this course, you will:
- Become familiar with handling, loading, unloading, and shooting a handgun (both .22 caliber and/or 9 mm).
- Learn the ‘Five Fundamentals of Shooting’:
- Weapons Grip — Retention and Support Grip
- Shooting Stance — Athletic and Aggressive Stance
- Sight Alignment — Rear and Front Sight Alignment (Equal Spacing)
- Sight Picture — Sights Align and Aimed at Target (Point of Aim)
- Trigger Squeeze — Controlled, steady pull-on trigger (Autonomous Trigger Pull Engagement)
- Shoot a minimum of 250 rounds.
We believe that being comfortable and gaining confidence with a firearm comes only from firing the weapon. This course may or may not include a brief introduction to some dynamic shooting, depending on the comfort level of the participants and their progress during the course. We can provide the firearms (.22LR cal. semi-auto handgun) for this course. Ammunition for the .22 caliber is available for purchase at market price or you may bring your own. Firing your personal semi-auto handgun is an option at the end of the course.
This course is the perfect gift for a loved one, and can also be a great team-building activity, especially for women who wish to build their confidence with proper handling and become empowered with new skill sets. This course does require four participants. If your group includes less than four people, please contact us so we can pair you with other participants.
Who is a good candidate for this course?
- Anyone who has never handled or fired a weapon and wishes to learn the safe and proper technique for doing so. This includes anyone thinking about training at HEXA for the Self-Defense Fundamentals course and is not sure where to begin.
- Anyone who has some or limited experience with a handgun, but still does not feel as comfortable as they would like loading, firing, and generally handling a weapon.
- Anyone who is intimidated by public range safety and has an overall apprehension of being around strangers with firearms.

Level 1: Fundamentals of Self Defense Shooting (Pistol or Rifle)
This two-day course (3.5 hours per day), is held on weekends (Sat/Sun) only and is designed to give the participant familiarity in the four key areas of Self Defense shooting:
- Weapons familiarization/breakdown and safety procedures.
- Safe weapons handling and manipulation.
- Marksmanship and practical training for functionality and accuracy.
- Static and dynamic shooting:
- Single and Multi-Threat
- Shooting from a covered (barricaded) position
- Reactive Steel Shooting
- ‘Stress Course’ (obstacles)
This course is the perfect next level to the HEXA Beginner’s course or for those who have some experience with weapons handling and are looking to become more proficient and confident in the ability to protect themselves and their loved ones. This course will focus on accuracy, shooting at various distances, and rapid firing of the weapon. Additionally, dynamic shooting while moving from a static position, engaging up to multiple targets.
Who is a good candidate for this course?
- Anyone who has a level of comfort and confidence with firearms handling and has had some formal instruction.
- Anyone wishing to improve technique and accuracy.
Course Cost: $300 per person
Level 2: Tactical Shooting (Dynamic Shoot — Pistol or Rifle)
This two-day course (4 hours per day), is held on weekends (Sat/Sun) only. This course requires an increased level of firearms proficiency and firearms handling. Participants will move from static to dynamic and dynamic to static engagement of threat(s) with accuracy and speed. This course builds on the Level 1 training curriculum as participants will engage from various positions of fire, covered and uncovered positions, and “on the move.”
In this course, you’ll learn:
- Shooting by ‘Feel’
- Learning balanced movement during engagement of threats
- Controlling breathing during an adrenaline rush
- Front-site focus
- “Point Shooting”
- Reactive steel shooting
- Types of Movement
- Forward – Back – Lateral
- Omni-directional
- “Foot work” while engaging and dis-engaging threats
- Base Scenarios
- “Low Ready” positioning
- From the holster
- Single and multiple threats
- Moving from cover to cover
- Shooting on the move
- Reactive steel shooting scenarios

Who is a good candidate for this course?
- Anyone who has been through the HEXA Level 1 Course.
Course Cost: $400 per person
Level 3: Advanced Tactical Shooting
(Dynamic Shoot — Pistol and Rifle)
This two-day course (4 hours per day) builds on Level 1 and 2 training curriculum and technique. The training is held on weekends (Sat/Sun) only. Participants will train in increased levels of tactical shooting, achieving an advanced level of proficiency in weapons handling and manipulation in stress environments.
In this course, you’ll learn:
- Controlled Fire
- Controlling recoil and timing to multiple threats
- ‘Point Shooting’
- Rapid fire
- Movement
- Barricaded shooting (panning)
- Mind-Set
- Shooting while clearing obstacles
- Speed shooting (close range)
- Stress course

Who is a good candidate for this course?
- Anyone who has taken a formal tactical shooting course of instruction and wishes to increase their level of awareness and develop efficient skills in their shooting techniques.
